Florida ceramic artist Peggi Nadeau explores movement and surface texture in her sculptural work.
Artist: Nadeau grew up in Lancaster, PA where she was born. She graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a BA in graphic design and went to work as a graphic designer in 1997.
In 2012, she moved to Mount Dora, FL. While continuing her work as a graphic designer, Nadeau joined the Orlando Pottery Studio and started to take clay workshops and attend wood firings.
Company/studio: PN Pottery started around 20 years ago, but Nadeau became more serious about her art in 2014 when she started showing her work in galleries in Florida.
The artist works out of her home in Mount Dora and fires at the Orlando Pottery Studio.
Art & materials: Hand-built porcelain and high-fired clay works that are highly textured. Sculptural pieces ($500 to $3,000) and small luminaries that play with light and shadow ($30 to $150).
Favorite or must-have tools: Anything that makes texture, including tools from her husband’s garage, such as drill bits, screws. Also chopsticks, dental tools, and pieces from board games
Inspirations:
- Jōmon pottery, with its decoration, coil building, texture and detail, when she first started.
- Ceramic artists, including Chris Gustin, Eva Zethraeus and Kristina Riska.
- The natural world. “Right now I find giant sea sponges really interesting,” said Nadeau.
Recent project: Creating a series of large sculptural pieces.
