Growing up, Windell Dobson was drawn to art and athletics and pursued both in college.
The Atlanta multi-media artist feels the discipline and spirit of his athletic past help shape his abstract and layered creations today.
The artist: Born in Jamaica, Dobson was raised in an environment where art and athletics were twin passions. He left for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where he earned a full track and field scholarship. Dobson graduated with a BFA in fine arts.
After college, he competed professionally in track and field events for Jamaica from 1986 to 1995.
In 2007, Dobson moved to Atlanta to experience the four seasons and to be surrounded by mountains and beautiful vegetation. He started Dobwin Art in 2018 and began making connections with interior designers and art collectors
Art & materials: Mixed media pieces for walls using cotton paper, fabric, canvas, acrylics, charcoal and texture paste. Also uses a variety of organic raw materials ($525 to $7,000).
“These elements allow me to layer meaning, culture, and tactile depth into every piece,” said Dobson.
