Debe Dohrer says her jewelry line is not for the meek.
“It’s unapologetic, attention-worthy jewelry,” said the Nashville designer. “And it always makes a statement.”
Artist: Born in Salt Lake City, UT, Dohrer moved to Scottsdale AZ, when she was 10. Dohrer graduated from Arizona State University, where she studied art and merchandising.
After college, she managed luxury boutiques in Phoenix and Scottsdale before moving to Tennessee.
Company & studio: Debe Dohrer Design started in 2008. The designer’s studio is located on the third floor of her home in Nashville.
In the beginning: In 2000, Dohrer started CustomRAGS, a custom clothing business. Eight years later, she created her jewelry line, Debe Dohrer Design to complement her clothing.
Art & materials: Jewelry using a variety of mixed metal and ancient African beads.

Inspirations: Georgia O’Keeffe and any artist who has a wabi-sabi feel. In Japanese, wabi-sabi refers to the beauty of the imperfect.
“I often use beads that are broken to show our imperfections,” said Dohrer.
Fun fact: Dohrer has two cats: Wabi and Sabi.
