Atlanta’s Amy Rader is known for using unconventional materials, such as preserved butterflies and crushed glass, in her large, layered paintings.
Artist: The Alabama native was obsessed with creating art throughout high school. Because of her interest and talent, Rader was awarded a full scholarship to the Art Institute of Atlanta. After graduating with the “Best Portfolio” Award, Rader worked for ad agencies and interactive companies for years to gain experience before going out on her own.
Company/studio: Georgia-based Rader Designs started in 2003 in the Atlanta area. Over the years, Rader has created artwork for galleries, interior designers, hospitality spaces and private collections.
Art & materials: Large, multi-media artwork, often combining acrylic paint, crushed glass, feathers, gems, minerals, preserved butterflies, resin and LED light ($5,000 to $22,000).
“I am drawn to unconventional materials that are intricately layered,” said Rader.

Other favorites: Digital murals ($6,000 plus). Her first project was for the Vanquish Lounge in Atlanta in 2011. Recently, Rader has created digital murals for Norwegian Cruise Lines, Lake Nona Wave Hotel in Orlando and Lock & Key, a restaurant in Atlanta.

- Vintage photography and travel.
- The female form and nature.
- Fashion designers like the late Alexander McQueen.
Fun or special commission: A multi-media piece of Marvin Gaye, the late singer and songwriter, for a fan. This will be the fourth piece that the collector has purchased.
