New Orleans native Gogo Borgerding says her personal style is more vintage, but the colorful metal jewelry she makes is decidedly modern.
The artist: After graduating in 2000 from Savannah College of Art and Design with a degree in metals and jewelry design, Borgerding returned to New Orleans and got to work.
In 2006, she opened Gogo Jewelry, a retail store on Magazine Street. The bustling space closed in 2020 due to the pandemic. The artist now has a working studio in the city’s Irish Channel neighborhood.
The art & materials: Handmade cuffs, necklaces, earrings, bracelets, belt buckles and cuff links, mostly in sterling silver and anodized aluminum. Recently she has been combining brass and anodized aluminum.
What’s popular: The cuffs ($275 to $575) in sterling and anodized aluminum are forged and riveted.

- A re-imagined wrist corsage as an evergreen jewelry piece ($375).
Big break: In 2005, she was asked to show at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival (Jazz Fest) and sold out of her cuffs that year.
