Atlanta native Sachi Rome explores a metaphysical world of safe and sacred spaces for Black people in her abstract paintings and mixed-media works.
Artist: The Atlanta native received a BA in art education with a concentration in painting from Morris Brown College in Atlanta. She also earned MAEd degree from Lesley University (MA).
In addition to being an artist, Rome is a visual arts teacher and the Department Chair of Fine Arts at Washington High School in Atlanta
Company/studio: Atlanta-based Sachi Studio Art started in 2015.
Rome’s small studio is on the third floor in Westside Studios, an old church in Atlanta’s West End that was converted into space for artists.
Art & materials: Abstract paintings and mixed-media art ($600 to $8,000) with color, movement and texture, using acrylic on paper and canvas, glass, tiles and diamond dust. Rome also makes paint from Georgia Red Clay.

- “Interwoven Narratives: Caul and Response” at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. April 3. The show is a collaboration with artist Tokie Rome Taylor, her twin sister.
- 61st Annual Juried Competition at the Masur Museum, Monroe, LA. Through May 4.
- The Nexus Fund exhibition (location in Atlanta TBD). September. Exhibit will include Rome’s sister, a mixed-media photographer, and Chloe Alexander, an Atlanta-based printmaker.
