In college, Megan Clark had a passion for fashion. But after taking a metals class, she changed her mind. And her major. Now the North Carolina artist is well-known for her timeless and modern jewelry designs.
The artist: Born in Guam, Clark spent most of her childhood in Durham, NC. After graduating from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in 2005 with a degree in metals and jewelry, Clark worked as a bench jeweler for four years before starting her business.
The company: Megan Clark Jewelry started in 2009 in Durham and incorporated in 2012.
The goods: Hand-fabricated contemporary jewelry in 18K gold and sterling silver.
The materials: 18K gold, sterling silver, plus natural and ethically sourced gemstones and diamonds. Also stingray leather, which she began incorporating in her work 10 years ago after seeing it used on a handbag.
Inspiration: A combination of architecture and nature. She enjoys balancing strong structures with delicate textures and patterns.
What’s popular: Limited-edition and one-of-a-kind pieces. Also earrings for their wear ability. “I am very conscious of weight and versatility when designing,” said Clark.

Claim to fame: In 2013, received the Saul Bell Award for her “Stingray Feathers” necklace, which was also featured on the cover of Lark Books’ “Showcase 500 Art Necklaces.”
